- The Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (AREC) service invites AREC Groups, Branches and Radio Operators to participate in a nationwide ShakeOut COMEX (Communication Exercise) on Saturday, 2nd November 2024.
The exercise, known as the Simulated Emergency Test, or SET, not only strengthens the capabilities of individual members but also enhances the collective readiness of the AREC.
This nationwide exercise is entirely voluntary, but the idea is to rally as many Radio Operators as possible to quickly establish communications between various AREC Groups and NZART Branches to exchange formal messages, which contain SitReps and requests using multiple modes: HF SSB, VHF/UHF repeaters and FM Simplex.
When: Saturday 2nd November, 0700 - 2200 hours
Where: Your QTH, Branch facilities, AREC facilities, parks and the great outdoors
Please remember that this is not a contest. It is an emergency communications exercise to develop the skills to provide emergency communications networks.
Thanks for taking the time to help get the word out if you can.
Please reply to RMCent@arec.nz to receive COMEX Instructions.

At AREC, we’re committed to assisting search and rescue, supporting emergency management operations, and providing safety comms when normal comms are inadequate or do not exist.
