Online reporting of major events

From time to time New Zealand is hit by major events such as cyclones and earthquakes. The AREC DMR network is also used for training events which include supporting safety at sporting activities. This page will provide a link to any current operations.

WUU-2K Marathon 2018

The Wellington urban 43km Trail Marathon/62km Ultra-Marathon/Team Relay Saturday 14 July.
AREC is again supported the event using VHF DMR on EE196. The Wellington AREC Tait VHF TP9300 radios and some Motorola DMR radios will be deployed again for this event.

Porirua Grand Traverse 2018

Various Wellington AREC Sections will again be working together with volunteers from LandSAR Wellington to support this multisport event on Sunday 8 April 2018. The DMR systems provided by the Wellington VHF Group on Colonial Knob and Wellington will be used, on this day all international traffic talkgroups will not be available on TS1 of the AREC ZL-TRBO system so that the use of the ZK talkgroup can continue uninterrupted. The ZL talkgroup will not be affected.

WUU-2K Marathon 2017

The Wellington urban 42km Trail Marathon/60km Ultra-Marathon/Team Relay event was held on the hills around Wellington, from Mt Kau Kau down to the south coast finishing at Mt Victoria, on Saturday July 15th 2017. AREC supported the event using VHF DMR on EE196 with along with ZK UHF DMR. The Wellington AREC Tait VHF TP9300 radio were deployed for this event and performed exceptionally well.

NZART Conference

AREC holds a Forum for members at the NZART Conference each year where often new technologies and updates are discussed. (AREC DMR STSP Repeaters are often setup when the Conference is at locations that do not have a fixed DMR Repeater operating)

Otago Rally 2016

Dunedin area AREC Sections will be working together to support the 2016 Otago Rally on Saturday 9 April and Sunday 10 April. On these day all international traffic talkgroups will not be available on TS1 of the AREC ZL-TRBO system so that the use of the ZK talkgroup can continue uninterrupted. The VK/ZL and ZL talkgroup will not be affected.
